Description
Federal officials appear to have launched an immigration enforcement surge in Charlotte, North Carolina, which the Trump administration claims is in response to elevated crime. Public comments from DHS and others indicate that the surge is likely to start on Saturday, November 15. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is reportedly reassigning personnel from Chicago’s “Operation Midway Blitz” to Charlotte and New Orleans. The operation is expected to be led by Senior U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino. Local immigration advocates report an increased presence of CBP and ICE agents in East Charlotte as of the morning of November 14, signaling that enforcement activity may already be underway.
